Happy New Year!! I am very excited about Pantone naming Honeysuckle 18-2120 the 2011 Color of the Year! It's a lovely color, though I am sure it will not be embraced by everyone. I immediately thought of Le Lai du Chèvrefeuill by Marie de France. I studied it in a French Culture and Civilization class I took the summer I studied abroad in Strasbourg, France and I cannot believe I remembered that chèvrefeuille means honeysuckle in french! I happen to be a fan of this wonderful melony-pink hue so I'm happy to hear it though I don't think it'll be as easy to convince my boss or clients that it's the way to go. Perhaps Pantone felt we all needed a bright and cheery color in our lives and what better way than to make it on trend and current!? I tend to obsess with colors but move on rather quickly, I think it's why designers have trouble making decisions for their own spaces, it's too hard to decide knowing that we'll be obsessed with something else very soon! In 2010 I had a yellow phase (again!), a purple phase, a cobalt blue phase, an emerald green (preferrably in malachite pattern) and navy blue phase, a brass phase (though not a color, I guess) and then a phase where I liked very little color but more neutrals and warm walnut woods, etc. I want to embrace honeysuckle, and use it somewhere, will keep you posted when I do. What do you think? Will you be using Honeysuckle in your decor? Will you wear it? Here are some images of the lovely honeysuckle in photos, interiors and products.
